I had the unique opportunity to interview Seed to Style founder and ECOlifestyle pioneer Marci Zaroff to learn more about her history as a pioneer within the sustainability space for over 30 years and how she created Seed to Style. I love being able to use this space to learn more about other people and what drives them and their business and Marci is such an inspiring person I wanted to share this interview with you guys!

1. How did you come up with the concept for Seed to Style?
As a serial entrepreneur, soil junkie and global innovator, I’ve been a tenacious leader and advocate of connecting organic agriculture to popular culture for over three decades. With an unwavering passion for fashion, I founded Seed to Style for QVC, so EVERYONE can #wearthechange and #dressorganically. From farm to fashion (literally) and exclusive to QVC, Seed to Style offers the most affordable, accessible, authentic, and size-inclusive sustainable apparel anywhere!

2. What serves as your inspiration?
I’m deeply inspired by nature’s wisdom, protecting human and environmental wellness, farmer and worker welfare, and future generations. The seed represents life, so when cultivated and nurtured with love and positivity, it serves as the DNA of Seed to Style. #loveyourmother

3. Were you always interested in items that are sustainable?
YES! And, as I share in my book “ECOrenaissance: Co-Creating a Stylish, Sexy and Sustainable World,” I believe that thru the lens of design, we can change the world. From art to food, beauty and fashion, to business—sustainability is not about sacrifice, but instead, it’s about getting more—by adding value with values. Leading with modern style, high quality, fit, color, comfort, softness and price, sustainable fashion offers no compromise, holistic and regenerative solutions that style the world of change, while changing the world of style.

4. What are 3 things that are important to you in your own life?
The five principles of the ECOrenaissance are driving factors in my personal and professional life: Creativity, Connection, Community, Consciousness and Collaboration. For me, LOVE (family, friends, work, nature, etc.) is the thread that ties everything together.

5. Any advice for new designers?
Lets design a cleaner, greener fashion industry! Manufacturers like MetaWear Organic offer full-package, turnkey sustainable apparel and home production—from source to story—to make sustainability easy. There are also numerous industry collaborations and resources to tap into—such as fashionrevolution.org, ReMake, Common Objective, and Textile Exchange, to just name a few.

6. What defines your personal style?
I love fashion that looks good, feels good, and does good in the world. I would consider myself a bohemian fashionista, as I love discovering interesting, artistic, and conscious designers—whose fabrics and styles have a unique reason for being. As a Florida girl who gets cold easily, I’m also big on fun, sexy, soft and stylish contemporary layering—mixing grays, blacks and other neutrals with stunning nature-inspired prints, tie-dyes, textures and pops of modern color. Additionally, I’m a fan of circular (affordable luxury) fashion from disruptive companies like Rent the Runway, the Real Real and Wardrobe.

7. Do you have any style icons?
I am inspired by kindred spirits such as Stella McCartney, Gisele, Olivia Wilde, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Emma Watson.

8. Tell me 5 interesting facts about you!
  1. I was a professional roller skater, calligrapher and artist by the age of 11, a vegetarian since the age of 16, and was awarded best-dressed in high school. Who I am today is a manifestation of my childhood interests.
  2. I got my Series 7/63 licenses and was an investment banker by the age of 17–working market hours, while studying computer science and getting a finance and marketing degree from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business.
  3. From my first NYC apartment, in 1990, I co-founded the world’s leading holistic wellness school and “health coach” certification—known today as the “Institute for Integrative Nutrition.”
  4. I have been to India (my happy place) countless times, and helped start one of the world’s first certified organic and Fair Trade cotton farm projects nearly 20 years ago.
  5. I have 5 kids, 3 cats, and residences in NYC, PA and Costa Rica.
