Holiday Recipes: Apple Crisp

I love baked goods and there is nothing better than homemade apple crisp, especially hot out of the oven! A few weeks back I headed upstate NY to go apple picking and brought home about a pound of apples. After eating a few I decided to bake the rest, recipe below:

Ingredients
    For the crumb topping:
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, diced into small chunks
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (optional, I sprinkle a bit on top before baking)

  • For the Apple filling:
  • 3-4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced thin or chunked

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. In a medium size bowl combine the crumb topping ingredients until in crumbs. Line the bottom of a pan or muffin tins with a layer of crumbs.
  3. For the Apple Filling: Peel and core apples then cut them into slices or smaller pieces.
  4. Layer apples on top of crumb layer.
  5. Add more crumbs on top of the apples then sprinkle with cinnamon.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and top is set. Remove from oven and allow to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
  7. Serve with ice cream of choice, most people opt for Vanilla but I am a chocolate girl!
