Janelle Monae: Tightrope was played as the models walked down the runway at Rebecca Minkoff

As a blogger, I am refreshing my browser every few minutes to check the latest on New York Fashion Week. I am attending a few events later in the week and will be frequenting the scenes to snap some shots but until then I am glued to my computer and feasting my eyes on the Spring 2014 preview.

I am a huge fan of Rebecca Minkoff and the designer knows how to put on a show! Janelle MonĂ¡e electrified a packed house by performing hits like "Tightrope" while the models sashayed up and down the runway. Minkoff's new Spring collection was influenced by strong Latin American women like Frida Kahlo, Bianca Jagger, and Alice Dellal. Working from that idea, she combined traditional elements from those cultures with modern silhouettes and fabrications. White leather miniskirts and shifts featuring intricate floral hand embroidery were spliced with sporty mesh panels. Elsewhere, Minkoff mixed together athletic jersey-inspired knits with crocheted pencil skirts that had a bohemian vibe. The result was eclectic but decidedly of the moment, and on-trend accessories including functional backpacks and tall gladiator sandals finished off each look. I for one am looking forward to this Spring trend (even as I pull out my Fall/Winter wear) and thinks Minkoff hit it on the mark!
