Some Kinda Fairytale

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

North of Little Italy bounded on the north by Houston Street, on the east by the Bowery, on the south by Broome Street, and on the west by Lafayette Street. Lying east of SoHo, south of NoHo, west of the Lower East Side, and north of Little Italy. The place where Vanessa Carlton found "Some kinda Fairytale" is a wonderful area of NYC known as Nolita.
Look a little deeper into Nolita and you will find that not only is it a locational hot spot it is a fashion maven. Take a tour with some of my favorite places and if you and your credit card are up for the challenge...dare to explore.

1. Alibi
241 Mulberry Street
Calling all jewelry junkies, this just might be your new place to bling out.
Alibi opened its doors in December housing a unique collection of jewelry from ten independent mostly local designers. You can't go wrong especially when prices typically range from $15-$40.

2. Resurrection
217 Mott Street
Vintage never looked as good as it does hanging in this upscale boutique. Frequent this Vintage shop and you are bound to score a great deal on one of their many designer frocks. Shop smart and check out their annual Summer Sale where mark downs reach the 30% off mark!

3.Young Designers Market
268 Mulberry Street
Tons of young designers gather here on the weekends and sell their unique designs to the public. Visit booth after booth while getting the opportunity to talk to the actual designers and ask for some personal styling tips.
The Market attracts a mixed group of shoppers as well as some famed celebrities including Leonardo Dicaprio, Debra Messing and Sienna Miller.

4. Lyell
173 Elizabeth
A crowd favorite for the past few years, Lyell has decided to close their doors this year leaving behind this sad but sweet message on their website.
"So after seven years and with a lease that is running out,I have decided to say goodbye for now. Lyell is my heart and soul. I couldn't have come as far as I have come with out all the loyal support that I've received over the years. However, it is time now to take break."
Lucky for their fans they have just started their close out sale offering reductions from 40%-60% off. The sale will continue throughout the month until they sell out their stock so...hurry in and prepare to save.

Feeling hungry after shopping your way through Nolita? Stop off at a place where the "premises are occupied by compulsively dessert loving people with no self control or discipline" aka Rice to Riches, the rice pudding phenomenon. Housed in an adorable futuristic space complete with witty wall signs, Rice to Riches offers rice pudding in 21 different flavors. My favorite? Hazelnut chocolate bear hug... mmmm... dreaming of rice pudding!

If that doesn't fill your stomach you might be happy to hear that the ever famed Shake Shack presently filling Madison Square Park and the UWS with never ending lines is in the works to open at 47 Prince Street. This chain will have rooftop seating and a guaranteed line. Well, as long as it's worth the wait...bring it on!
